Anyone who takes part in horse racing in Louisiana must be licensed by the Louisiana Racing Commission. This includes both the organizations that hold race meetings and the individuals or businesses who work on the grounds of a licensed track. Licensing helps us keep the sport safe, fair, and transparent for everyone involved.

How to Apply

Licenses are issued by the Louisiana Racing Commission and expire June 30 of each applicable year. You can apply or renew by completing the appropriate form and submitting it, along with your payment and any required documents, to your local Racing Commission office or at a licensed race track.

Multi‑year renewals: Under Louisiana law, many racing licenses no longer have to be renewed annually. Owners, trainers, jockeys, jockey agents, exercise riders, veterinarians and colors may renew their licenses for up to a three‑year period at the standard annual fee; the license (or color registration) will expire on June30 of the third year. As of July1,2022, the commission may also renew partnership licenses for up to three years. This multi‑year option streamlines renewals and provides greater flexibility for participants.
